Help Protect

Help Protect Our Sewer System

Dear Residents, the Pinewood Sanitary District works hard to keep our sewer system operating safely and efficiently. Certain materials must never be poured down drains or flushed into the sewer system:

  • Cooking oils, fats, and grease

  • Diesel fuel, motor oil, or petroleum products

  • Chemicals or hazardous liquids

  • Medications or medical waste

  • Needles or other sharp objects

  • Flushable Wipes are flushable but do not degrade

Why This Is Important

Improper disposal can cause serious problems, such as sewer line blockages leading to backups, damage to treatment equipment, and safety risks for workers. Recently, illegally dumped petroleum killed essential microorganisms necessary for treating wastewater. Dumping such substances is dangerous, illegal, and subject to enforcement and penalties.
